Let's Talk Boutonnieres!

There is no one way to do a boutonniere for a wedding. We love all the options that are at our fingertips when searching on Pinterest, IG and Google! There are a few tips from the pros when it comes to bouts!

Don’t

  • Put a boutonniere on a shirt or suspenders

  • Forget to ask about allergies

  • Pin boutonnieres to military uniforms

Do

  • Wait until your final details meeting with your floral designer to discuss the options for boutonnieres (colors, styles, pros and cons). This timing allows for the groom to have selected their attire to compliment for the day.

  • Ask the groom if he would like to wear floral for the wedding day

  • Consider the attire when choosing a boutonniere - simple tie - bold boutonniere; bold tie - simple boutonniere

Groom

Groom Ideas

  • Formal jacket - ask for a wrap on the boutonniere

  • Compliment the bouquet flowers with colors and or greenery

  • Don’t forget about the tie - colors should compliment the boutonniere

  • Just like the bridal bouquet - this should be enhanced or more special than the rest of the boutonnieres

  • Traditional boutonniere or the new trend, pocket square

Ring Bearer

Ring Bearer Ideas

  • If the little guys aren’t wearing a vest or jacket, we don’t recommend boutonnieres for them.

  • We like to ask how hold the little guys are so we can make sure they are safe and appropriately sized for them.

Who else gets a boutonniere? We thought you would never ask

  • Groomsmen - compliment bridesmaid bouquet flowers

  • Fathers - compliment mothers corsages

  • Grandfathers - compliment grandmothers corsages

  • Officiant - if this is your pastor, family or friend staying for dinner - order them one. If this is someone you have hired you can skip

  • Readers and/or Ushers - matching the wedding floral
