A Vibrant South Asian Wedding on Sarasota Bay

Suma & Dhiraj at New College of Florida

With the Sarasota Bay stretching just beyond the ceremony space, Suma and Dhiraj’s wedding at New College of Florida felt effortlessly beautiful from the very beginning. The setting alone, open water, soft light, and a coastal breeze created a sense of calm that carried throughout the celebration.

From there, every detail layered in color, texture, and meaning.

A Palette of Soft Neutrals and Vibrant Color

Their South Asian wedding embraced a palette of soft creams and ivories, accented with vibrant pops of pink, orange, and blue. Lush greenery was woven throughout, bringing a natural fullness to each space and tying everything back to the bayfront surroundings. The result felt refined, but still full of life, elegant without ever feeling overly formal.

A Meaningful Bridal Entrance

As part of the ceremony, the bride’s entrance was marked by a phoolon ki chadar—a floral canopy traditionally held by family members as she makes her way forward. Symbolizing love, protection, and the support surrounding her, it’s one of the most meaningful moments in a South Asian wedding.

A Mandap Framed by Sarasota Bay

That sense of intention carried beautifully into the mandap, which served as the focal point of the ceremony. Designed with a lush layering of florals in soft creams and vibrant accents, it framed each moment while allowing the significance of the rituals to remain at the forefront. Set against the natural beauty of Sarasota Bay, the entire scene felt both expansive and intimate where every detail, from the entrance to the ceremony itself, was deeply considered.

A Warm and Inviting Reception Space

As the celebration transitioned into the reception at The Westin Sarasota, the atmosphere shifted into something warm, layered, and inviting. Guests were welcomed into a space framed by floral-adorned arches, where chandeliers hung overhead and soft white and ivory seating created a natural place to gather, connect, and capture the evening.

Florals continued to play a central role in shaping the experience. Ground arrangements and clusters of blooms added depth to the space, while greenery softened the overall design and kept it feeling organic and cohesive.

Thoughtful Tablescape Design

The tablescape brought in a thoughtful mix of styles, adding visual interest while maintaining a cohesive look. Some tables featured low, lush centerpieces paired with hurricane candles and tapered candlelight, creating a soft, romantic glow. Others were anchored by taller arrangements of white roses and greenery in clear vessels, adding height and a sense of grandeur to the room. Each place setting was finished with delicate bud vases, holding a single rose, simple, intentional, and quietly elegant.

One of the most memorable design moments was the long table. Layered with orchids, greenery, and an abundance of candlelight, it created a warm, intimate atmosphere that drew guests in. Set beneath a wooden structure with chandeliers overhead, it felt like its own experience within the celebration, inviting conversation, connection, and a moment to slow down.

Suma and Dhiraj’s Sarasota wedding was a beautiful reflection of what makes South Asian weddings so special: vibrant color, meaningful tradition, and a joyful energy that carries through every part of the day.
